How to Increase Breast Milk?

The initiation and first 2 weeks of breastfeeding are very important. The baby should latch on to breast within the first half hour after delivery.

When the baby suck he stimulates milk production and after 3rd-5th day amount of milk increases.

Breastfeeding frequency should be 8-12 times/day for the first 4-6 weeks.

The baby should continue feeding for at least 10 minutes, and make sure that the he/she receives the fat-rich milk that comes towards the end of breastfeeding.

Consuming an extra 500 calories per day is enough for the mom.

The mother should have a balanced diet, including vegetables, fruits, dairy, meat, chicken, fish and grains. She should also consume 2-3 liters of water daily.

The mother should not lose weight very fast.
